Kansai Plascon Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to sports development and community transformation through its sponsorship of the 2026 Tooro Kingdom Amasaza Cup, which officially kicked off at Humura Church of Uganda Playground in Kyaka County, Kyegegwa District.
The opening ceremony brought together Tooro Kingdom officials, local leaders, football supporters and communities from across the region for an afternoon of cultural celebration, sporting rivalry and community engagement.
The launch was highlighted by the inaugural Tooro Shield Cup between defending champions Kyaka County and Fort Portal City, a repeat of the 2025 tournament final.
After an intense and competitive 90 minutes ended without a winner, Kyaka County held their nerve in the resulting penalty shootout, defeating Fort Portal City 5–4 to begin their title defence on a winning note.
As a key sponsor of the tournament, Kansai Plascon is supporting the use of football as a platform for identifying emerging talent, strengthening relationships between communities and promoting positive social messages across the Tooro Kingdom.
The partnership reflects the company’s broader commitment to investing in structured sports competitions that give young people opportunities to showcase their abilities while bringing communities together through a shared passion for football.
The Tooro Amasaza Cup has grown into one of the region’s most anticipated sporting and cultural events. Now in its fifth edition, the tournament features nine counties representing different parts of the Tooro Kingdom: Kyaka, Burahya, Fort Portal City, Mwenge South, Mwenge North, Bunyangabu, Ntoroko, Kibale and Kitagwenda.
Beyond the competition on the pitch, the 2026 edition will continue to carry an important public health message, using the tournament’s extensive community reach to promote HIV awareness, testing and responsible health practices, particularly among young people.
Through its sponsorship, Kansai Plascon is helping strengthen the tournament’s ability to reach audiences across the participating counties while supporting a platform that combines sport, culture, health advocacy and community development.
The opening event also demonstrated the tournament’s role in promoting unity among the different Amasaza and strengthening relationships between local leaders, cultural institutions and communities within the Tooro Kingdom.
For defending champions Kyaka County, the victory provides an early boost as the team seeks to become the first side to successfully retain the title since Kansai Plascon and MTN Uganda strengthened their involvement in the competition.
Kyaka won the 2025 championship after defeating Fort Portal City 2–0 in the final at Kinyananisika Grounds, with goals from Arafat Baluku and Fred Tumusiime.
The 2026 tournament will continue with matches across the participating counties before reaching its climax in September as part of activities commemorating the Empango, the coronation anniversary of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
